A story about HobokenMartha
I met Martha at the NYC 43t meetup…and I thought it was here, but it wasn’t.
I’m sorry! She’s a wonderful lady.

Saw him training his adorable dog on a Hudson River/NYC pier. Then they danced!
I just saw the musical Xanadu. And it is fun.
Adorable nephew and I went to see the show and scored onstage tickets, after being instructed in the Xanadu dance and the precise timing of breaking open a glow stick. Random thoughts:
1. Everything is funnier in an Australian accent.
2. Jackie Hoffman is a demi-goddess.
3. Tony Roberts is in really, really, good shape. Perhaps all those Woody Allen movies were also some kind of Dorian Gray deal?
4. I miss Gene Kelly, and so does this musical, and performer Curtis Holbrook, who first appears onstage as a glittery muse, more campy Pan than deity, proceeds to swipe the show with a costume change into spectators and a vintage suit, and an acrobatic Kelley-esque tribute tapdance on a desk.
5. Douglas Carter Beane actually manages to make this show about something, and that’s not even counting the connection he draws between Greek mythology and leg warmers.
6. I think little kids will love it—it’s 90 intermissionless minutes, and there are roller skates—and the score really stands up. And not once does it suggest, as “Spring Awakening” does in nearly every song, that Adults Suck.
One of the most energetic, enthusiastic, kind, friendly, creative, multi-talented, empathetic people I know.
I meet Martha last weekend at the 43things brunch here in NYC. When i was approaching jekyll and hyde’s, i saw two women with a pit bull that looked very familiar…then it dawned on me, it’s HobokenMartha! well…i was mistaken about the dog BUT not about Martha. :)
I had a great time talking with Martha and found her to be easy to talk to, kind and all around dynamic individual. ...and yes i hope to see more of Martha too.
HobokenMartha was the first 43er that I ever met (that I didn’t already know and is an actual person unlike RufusTheGnome). I was standing outside Jeckyll & Hyde in NYC waiting for someone to show up and she walked right over to me and introduced herself. I really didn’t know much about her beforehand, but quickly was charmed by her tale of multi-tasking in meeting people as she was meeting another paramedic from a different organization at the same time.
We didn’t have much of a chance to chat based on the table layout, so we’ll have to get together another time.
Yea! I met Holly today and bonded over Moleskine notebooks. Hope to see more of you!
I am sorry I didn’t get a chance to chat with SEGSID more…but she brought great energy and a cool friend! There will be more meetups!
HobokenMartha and i met up today to go see the Craftacular and also to chat over some coffee at good ol’ Dunkin’ Donuts…
Another friendly person in NY!!!! Yay!!!
HB is just as sweet and savvy and friendly and wise and writerly and bookish and blogger-ly in person as she is here on things-43.
Our conversation ranged from music, to talks of apartments in Hoboken and NY, to the “way one needs to be” in midtown Manhattan, to talks of California, to her cool career to what it’s like to work with first-generation college bound students… the time just flew by. So nice to know another friendly face in the City! I’m sure we’ll meet up again… maybe with even more 43ers!
P.S. The Craftacular was nifty too… thanks for suggesting it!
